Brief
Here we will focus on what is the things which we have to keep in mind while upgrading CPU, RAM and Hardisk.
To check which CPU, RAM and Hardisk is installed in your laptop you may download CPU-Z software from here.
- CPU
- Always prefer latest generation. For eg. i7 is better than i5. i9 is better than i7.
- If you have to decide which one to choose from two same i5 processors.
- Simply look the generation i.e. i5 of 8th generation is better than i5 of 7th generation.
- RAM
- Check which RAM your laptop supports i.e. DDR2, DDR3 or DD4.
- Quad Channel is better than Dual Channel, Dual Channel is better than Single Channel.
- Do not buy the latest RAM if your laptop does not support it. For eg. If your laptop supports DDR3 then you can buy any RAM of DDR3 but cannot buy DDR4 or DDR2.
- Installing RAM of two different sizes for eg 4GB in one slot(stick) and more than 4GB in other slot will may cause issue even they have same speed or latency.
- Note
- If you are not sure which RAM to install then do this.
- if your laptop has two slots(sticks) then buy ram kit which contains two RAM so that there won't be any issue.
- Similarly, if your laptop supports 4 ram slots then buy a ram kit of which has 4 RAM,
- Keep in mind if you need 32GB RAM and your laptop has 2 slots and your laptop supports DDR4. Then, buy a RAM kit which contains of two 16GB RAM.
- Hardisk
- Always prefer SSD for programming minimum 240 GB or 256GB recommended.
- Old laptop 5 years or More then buy SATA SSD and buy USB to SATA Converter. Always buy SATA3 not SATA2.
- Laptop with mSATA Slot then buy mSATA SSD.
- Laptop with M.2 SATA Slot then buy M.2 SATA SSD
- Laptop with M.2 NVMe Slot then Buy NVMe SSD
